'Twelve Months of Summer' is about my travels around the world, along with my newly-married wife, visiting 22 countries in one year. Our travels took us to all four corners of the globe and offered vastly contrasting experiences, over thousands of miles, endured mainly over land.
In preparation for the trip, we sought out other literature; what to pack, recommended routes, the best tours, which guide books to buy, and anything else we could find.
I was looking for a book that had some resemblance to our itinerary and written by someone who had experienced this scale of travel for the first time. There was little literature that matched this criteria. Sure, there are books that are written in a similar vein such as 'Rainbow Diary' and 'The Gringo Trail'. I was looking for a book that could prepare me for the sights, smells, sounds, and emotions encountered in the day-to-day experience of the places we planned to visit. It did not exist.
